The Charity Work Funded by Kars4Kids
Understanding the relationship between Kars4Kids and Oorah
Chances are your first experience with Kars4Kids was hearing our jingle on the radio or on TV.
If so, you probably know little about us beyond how to reach us (heck, our phone number might be the only one you know by heart).
Can we interest you in learning more?
You know donating is a free and easy way to get an unused car out of your driveway. But what about the kids part? How does your old car help kids?
At its core, the process is simple:
You donate your car → we take care of everything → the proceeds go to charity
We’ve built and refined a system that turns what could be a hassle for you into an easy solution; something that might be challenging to take care of yourself is something we handle every day. We arrange free pickup, sell the vehicle, and pass the proceeds directly to charity.
What charity? How, exactly? In short: Most proceeds from Kars4Kids donations support programs delivered through our sister nonprofit, Oorah.
Kars4Kids and Oorah are separate 501(c)3 charities, each with its own board of directors, leadership, and staff. We share certain resources to maximize efficiency, but each organization has a distinct role. Kars4Kids focuses on outreach to potential donors and program oversight while Oorah focuses on the day-to-day running of the programs.
Kars4Kids specializes in reaching people who are looking to get rid of a vehicle, making it easy to donate to charity instead. Rather than competing with other charities, we’re competing with the used car buyer market – scrappers, dealers and junkyards. With our media purchasing savvy and our operational chops, we’re able to bring new funds into the charity world.
Oorah, in turn, uses those funds to deliver direct services to children and families including:
- Mentoring and educational support
- After-school and summer programs
- Family guidance and resources
- Enrichment opportunities designed to help children grow and succeed
These programs primarily serve Jewish children and families, helping participants grow by drawing on Jewish heritage and values. This approach supports children academically and personally, building confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of identity that helps them become successful contributors to their communities.
This model allows each organization to do what it does best:
- Kars4Kids focuses on expanding the pool of charitable giving and providing program oversight
- Oorah focuses on delivering high-quality programs on the ground
In addition to supporting Oorah, Kars4Kids also:
- Promotes mentoring and youth advocacy through media
- Provides support to other aligned nonprofit organizations
Together, this creates a broader impact while keeping each role focused and effective.
The ads that introduced you to Kars4Kids serve an important purpose, and they are worth paying for: they reach people who want to get rid of a vehicle and may be interested in a tax deduction.
What starts as “I just want to get this car off my hands” can become real support for children through mentoring, education, and family programs.
And now you know the rest of the story
The jingle may have been the first thing you heard.
But behind it is a system designed to take something you no longer need and turn it into something that truly helps.
