Scott Braden, creator of superhero Kent Menace, is, in our opinion, a superhero car donor. After all, what could be more heroic than supporting programs that mentor and educate children across the United States and Canada?

In that sense, all our donors are superheroes. But not all of them have fathered a harpoon-wielding superhero, as is the case with Braden, co-creator of Kent Menace #0: The Director’s Cut, in conjunction with artist Mike Malbrough.

Monster-Battling Superhero

Inspired by Superman, Kent Menace, the son of a pirate king, battles monsters the likes of which us ordinary mortals never dreamt. Except perhaps in a nightmare. Braden refers to these monsters as “epic.” We believe him. (You should, too.)

The Westminster, Maryland native worked in marketing and communications at Diamond Comic Distributors for some 10 years. Braden’s job had him writing about comic books and interviewing comic book writers. It was during this time that the idea of his own comic book superhero, Kent Menace, evolved in Braden’s mind. Eventually, he brought Kent Menace to life, bringing fans of superhero comic books another icon to read about and relish.

We spoke with Braden, one of our more interesting donors, to find out why he chose to donate his car, and of course, to learn more about Kent Menace, superhero par excellence:

Why Donation?

We spoke with Braden, one of our more interesting donors, to find out why he chose to donate his car, and of course, to learn more about Kent Menace, superhero par excellence:

Kars4Kids: You chose to make a charitable donation of your car, when you could have sold or junked it. Why donation?

Scott Braden: A very good friend of mine suggested Kars4Kids. And, to be honest, supporting an organization that supports and mentors children of different backgrounds is a no-brainer. It is now cliché to say this, but our children are indeed our future. Let’s give them the tools to make ours a better world to live in.

Kars4Kids: Why did you choose Kars4Kids as the recipient of your donation?

Scott Braden: First, it was suggested to me by someone I love and trust implicitly. Second, again, giving Jewish and gentile children the ability to better their lives should be all our responsibility. I just wanted to do my part.

What Would Kent Say?

Kars4Kids: Kent Menace is a superhero. What would Kent have to say about his co-creator donating a car to an organization whose mission is to educate and mentor children?

Scott Braden: “I may be as old as my pirate father’s long arm and just younger than the gray, grave sky, but I am nowhere as timeless as mankind’s desire to care for and protect our children. Good Christ, that Braden lad shows good form and cheerio! Huzzah, I say . . . huzzah!”

Kars4Kids: How can interested readers find your work?

Scott Braden: Those interested in reading American Mythology Productions’ Kent Menace #0The Director’s Cut can purchase copies of the first chapter in our “Mysterious Mariner’s” saga – as well as enjoy more pulp adventure by picking up the long-awaited Zorro: Flights by legendary comics scribe Don McGregor – by going over to www.AmericanMythology.net/shop
and ordering direct from the publisher’s website. I am also co-writer of The Overstreet Price Guide of Lost Universes with J.C. Vaughn and Robert M. Overstreet, which will arrive in stores in time for the 2021 winter holidays.
