“Can I donate my car to another person?”
Sure- after all, it’s your car.
You can do whatever you’d like with it.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Do you have the correct paperwork (title, registration, etc.)?
- Check with your state DMV to see what’s required.
- Remember to cancel your insurance.
- Make sure you have a way for your car to get to the correct place; driving or towing.
This option won’t give you a deduction on your taxes, which is why it may be a good idea to donate to a charity whose work you believe in.
Make sure to choose a 501(c)3 organization- that is, registered with the IRS- in order to get your deduction.
Also, depending on the charity you choose, you may get other benefits too.
