How one minivan donation tells a much bigger story.
When Dave Roubeni picked up the phone to donate his car, he thought he was calling a completely different organization. But when he realized he’d actually reached Kars4Kids, it felt like more than just a coincidence.
“I was overjoyed,” Dave said. “It felt like things were falling into place. I was more than happy to give back to an organization that gave me so much growing up.”
That organization was more familiar than he expected. As a teen, Dave had participated in ChillZone, the popular Saturday night learning and activity program, and later spent a summer as a camper at TheZone.
Memories That Stuck

“The camp was beautiful and well cared for,” Dave recalled. “I had a great time — there were so many activities, and the people there really looked after us.”
The experience stayed with him. Years later, while studying in Israel, Dave attended a program similar to ChillZone, also run by Kars4Kids partners. “They gave out food and made it fun. I went to a lot of those and enjoyed them a lot,” he said. “It had a big impact on me.”
So when the opportunity came to give back, he didn’t hesitate. He donated a 2018 Mercedes Metris minivan, a vehicle that had served his large family well.
A Minivan Full of Memories
“I come from a big family — twelve siblings — so a car that could fit everyone was important,” Dave shared. “We used it to spend time together, to stay connected.”
The donation process, he said, was seamless. “Everything was so smooth. They coordinated the pickup perfectly, and it all went quickly and easily.”
Now working full-time, Dave remains active in his Long Island community and values time with friends, healthy living, and giving back where he can.
“We used the minivan to spend time together, to stay connected. Now it’s helping someone else.”

Paying It Forward
Dave’s advice to kids currently involved in Kars4Kids-sponsored programs? “Enjoy every moment. No moment comes back in life, especially ones like this. Connect with yourself and with the people around you.”
His story — from ChillZone participant to TheZone camper to grateful donor — reminds us that every interaction matters, and every positive touchpoint can spark a full-circle moment.
