Two drivers stood there puzzled, milling about, their hoods open. It seems that all attempts at jumpstarting the stuck car had utterly failed. Lucky for them, Tom knew the probable cause: the leads had been attached in the wrong order. Tom explained that in jump starting a car, it\u2019s crucial to attach the negative cable first, then the positive.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ai-text\">The drivers thanked Tom for his help and quickly reconnected the cables in the correct order. With a few more tries, the stuck car finally roared to life, and the road was clear again. As Tom continued on his way, he couldn&#8217;t help but reflect on the importance of<\/span> doing things in the correct order\u2014especially <span class=\"ai-text\">when jump<\/span> <span class=\"ai-text\">starting <\/span>a<span class=\"ai-text\"> car<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not difficult to jump start a car\u2014in fact it\u2019s quite easy\u2014but there <em>are<\/em> many steps to remember, and they have to be done in sequence. Otherwise, there\u2019s <span class=\"ai-text\">a risk of sparks and <\/span>possible <span class=\"ai-text\">damage to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kars4kids.org\/hub\/is-your-insurance-company-tracking-your-driving-and-why-would-they-anyway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span class=\"ai-text\">electrical system<\/span><\/a><span class=\"ai-text\">. <\/span>Also, it\u2019s a good way to fry your battery and it won\u2019t start your car.<\/p>\n<h2>Instructions for Jump Starting Cars<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"ai-text\">Remembering the <\/span>following simple <span class=\"ai-text\">steps<\/span> in their proper order, <span class=\"ai-text\">can save you time, money, and <\/span>much future <span class=\"ai-text\">frustration<\/span>, when jump starting a car<span class=\"ai-text\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Attach the black negative cable of the jumper cables to the negative terminal of the dead battery.<\/li>\n<li>Next, attach the other end of the negative cable to a metal part of the car with the good battery.<\/li>\n<li>Now attach<span class=\"ai-text\"> the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.angi.com\/articles\/how-tell-positive-negative-wire.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">red <span class=\"ai-text\">positive cable<\/span><\/a><span class=\"ai-text\"> of the jumper cables to the positive terminal of the good battery. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ai-text\">Attach the other end of the positive cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>T<span class=\"ai-text\">ry starting the car with the dead battery. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>I<span class=\"ai-text\">f it starts,<\/span> let the car run<span class=\"ai-text\"> for a few minutes<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>T<span class=\"ai-text\">urn off the engine. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>D<span class=\"ai-text\">isconnect the <\/span>red <span class=\"ai-text\">positive cable from the positive terminal of the dead battery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Then d<span class=\"ai-text\">isconnect the other end of the positive cable from the positive terminal of the good battery<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Now d<span class=\"ai-text\">isconnect the <\/span>black <span class=\"ai-text\">negative cable from the metal part of the car with the good battery. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>F<span class=\"ai-text\">inally, disconnect the negative cable from the negative terminal of the dead battery. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>D<span class=\"ai-text\">ouble-check that all connections have been properly disconnected and secured. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>C<span class=\"ai-text\">lose the hoods of both car<\/span>s and be on your separate merry ways.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leaving a condolence call to a neighbor just down the street, Tom confronted a car stuck in the middle of the narrow road, blocking his way with another car parked alongside.
