If you plan on junking your motor vehicle and no longer want to keep the old car on your insurance policy, then there are a couple of things you\u2019re going to want to know.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Transfer title<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

After you transfer your title to the salvage dealer to be canceled, you\u2019ll want to surrender your tags.<\/p>

According to the FLHSMV, you can surrender your registration to \u201ca local Florida tax collector\u2019s office, a license plate agency, or a local driver\u2019s license office.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Get your receipt<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

You can\u00a0find<\/a>\u00a0your closest tax collector\u2019s office, and receive a receipt from them on the spot.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Give receipt to insurance agent<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Provide your insurance agent with the receipt, and they should be able to cancel your policy.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Surrender your tags to the State of Florida<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The only way you\u2019ll be able to cancel your policy is if you surrender your tags to the State of Florida.<\/p>

Otherwise, you face the risk of license suspension.<\/p>

If you\u2019re junking your vehicle through a\u00a0donation program<\/a>, then the charity will take care of junking your vehicle, transferring your title, and surrendering your tags.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
